Can this be retrofitted, or does it only work in a new build?

Both. A new build gives the most freedom because cabling is planned at drawing stage. For a finished home we use wireless mesh systems and retrofit modules that sit behind existing switches, so most of it can be done without opening walls. The survey tells us which approach the property needs.

What happens if the internet goes down?

Accepted Answer

The home keeps working. Lighting, climate, shading and access run on a local controller, so scenes, switches and schedules are unaffected. Only the parts that genuinely need the internet — remote access from your phone while away, and voice assistants — pause until the connection returns.

How long does an installation take?

Accepted Answer

It follows the build rather than adding to it. On a new villa, first-fix cabling runs with the electrical works and commissioning happens in the weeks before handover, so the smart-home programme sits inside the construction programme. On an occupied retrofit the on-site work is far shorter and is scheduled around you. We give you dated milestones with the quotation, once we have seen the drawings.

Can we start small and expand later?

Yes, and it is often the sensible route. Start with lighting and climate, and leave the infrastructure ready for security, shading, entertainment and energy later. The important decision is the controller and the cabling at the start — get that right and adding systems later is straightforward rather than a rebuild.

What does a project cost?

Three things move the number: how many rooms are covered, which of the six systems you want, and whether it is new build or retrofit. A lighting-and-climate scheme in a finished apartment sits at one end; a full six-system villa with cinema and energy management sits at the other. Rather than quote a range that would not apply to your home, we price from your drawings — send them through and you will get a written breakdown, itemised by system, with no obligation.

Who supports the system after handover?

Question 7

Is it secure? Who can see my home?

Accepted Answer

Access is per-user and revocable, so you can see who has it and remove anyone at any time. Cameras and locks sit on a segregated network, and remote access is encrypted. Control runs locally, which means your day-to-day scenes, schedules and switches are not routed through anyone else&#8217;s servers. Mass holds administrative access only for support, and only while an engagement is active. If you would like our written data-handling terms before signing, ask and we will send them.

Do you work with our architect or contractor?

Preferably, and as early as possible. Involving Mass at drawing stage means cable routes, switch positions and equipment space are designed in rather than worked around. We provide schedules and layouts the electrical contractor can build from directly.
